Otosclerosis

Otosclerosis is rated by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs under DC 6202 of 38 CFR § 4.87, DC 6202 across 2 severity tiers (30% -- Dizziness and staggering / 10% -- Occasional dizziness). Service connection requires (1) a current diagnosis, (2) an in-service event, injury, or exposure, and (3) a medical nexus opinion linking the two under 38 C.F.R. § 3.303.
OVERVIEW
Abnormal bone remodeling in the middle ear, particularly affecting the stapes bone, leading to fixation and progressive conductive hearing loss. May also cause sensorineural hearing loss if the cochlea is involved (cochlear otosclerosis).
RATING CRITERIA (2 LEVELS)
30% -- Dizziness and staggering
Peripheral vestibular disorder with dizziness and staggering.
10% -- Occasional dizziness
Occasional dizziness.
