The USAF 2T1 Vehicle Operations specialist operates and maintains military vehicles including buses, tractor-trailers, fuel tankers, and specialized aerospace ground equipment. Duties include driving on flight lines, transporting cargo and personnel, and operating in both garrison and deployed environments. Physical demands include vehicle vibration exposure, heavy cargo handling, and working around aircraft engines and flight line equipment.
OCCUPATIONAL HAZARDS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
-Whole-body vibration from vehicle operations (trucks, buses, fuel tankers)
-Flight line noise exposure from aircraft engines, APUs, and ground equipment (90-130 dB)
-Loading and securing cargo (heavy lifting, strapping, securing loads)
-Vehicle maintenance tasks (changing tires, equipment checks)
-Chemical exposure from fuel (JP-8), vehicle fluids, de-icing chemicals
-Deployment to austere locations with combat support operations
-Prolonged driving shifts (8-12 hours) in non-ergonomic vehicle seats
-Burn pit and environmental exposure when deployed

TYPICAL RATING CONSTELLATION
A 2T1 with 6+ years commonly has: bilateral hearing loss (10%), tinnitus (10%), lumbar spine (10-20%), knee (10%), and possibly respiratory (10%) and cervical spine (10%). Combined: 40-60%.
KEY CLAIM TIP
Air Force 2T1s often do not realize their flight line noise exposure qualifies for hearing loss and tinnitus. You do not need to be aircrew to have noise-induced hearing damage. Your duty on the flight line establishes the exposure. Check your DD Form 2216 audiograms.
